Design Challenge: To accommodate extra guests, the owners of this lake home wanted to build a bunkhouse. Because of its small proportions—only 16’ x 20’— the project’s focus was on designing an efficient yet comfortable sleeping space and bathroom.
Solution: Indicia’s design specifies two knotty pine bunk beds with full-size mattresses on the bottom and twin-size mattresses bunked above to create accommodations for 6 guests. A sturdy railing encloses the top bunks and each bed has its own reading lamp. From each bunk you can view the lake, check the weather for fishing, and see the sun set. Under the bottom bunks are roomy drawers for storing duffel bags and travel gear. The stained concrete floor is low maintenance and warm with its built-in radiant heat, perfect for chilly weekends. The bath’s dual sinks make it easier for six guests to coexist without bathroom traffic jams. A slate shower’s rustic texture and coloring is well-suited to hard water. Though the bunkhouse has its creature comforts, it retains the cozy feel of camping out.
