Design Challenge: This family room is centrally located — in fact it has four openings leading to other parts of the home. Consequently, it lacked a cohesive feel, and too often, it felt like a room to cut through rather than linger in.
Solution: Indicia’s design created a central conversation area near the fireplace and away from the doorways. Versatile upholstered corner chairs face the sofa and the fireplace, allowing for different moods. Low custom cabinets built with rich cherry and elegant maple transition from the horizontal feeling of the fireplace to the tall display shelves and entertainment center. Bound rolled goods carpet complements the pale terracotta porcelain tile and delineates the conversation space. Track lights replace table lamps and highlight artwork, including the intricately carved door lintel placed over the fireplace to celebrate the room’s horizontal lines. Now the family room has its own cozy identity, even with the traffic.
