Design Challenge: The owners of this 1970’s home wanted to update their kitchen so the husband and wife could cook together without colliding. They also wanted a more open floor plan that would integrate the little-used dining room and foyer.

Solution: While working within the existing footprint, Indicia reconfigured the foyer, entrance to the basement, kitchen and dining room so they flow together. The kitchen now includes two distinct workspaces. Contemporary Shaker-style hickory cabinets, professional appliances, granite countertops and slate tile replace the 1970’s-style look. Updated lighting includes recessed perimeter lights, pendants and a hood light over the island, and under-cabinet lights, so the previously dim kitchen is well-lit and appealing. The owner’s handcrafted stained glass doors on the display cabinets add a uniquely personal touch.
