Design Challenge: The clients wanted to transform their very small 1950’s kitchen (complete with pink appliances, metal cabinets and linoleum floor) into a workspace for two that featured natural materials reminiscent of the North woods.
Solution: Indicia recommended removing the kitchen’s half wall to create more space, adding an island, and replacing the retro appliances with professional ones. The granite-topped island with prep sink adds workspace along with a convenient eating bar. The iridescent blue glazed tile backsplash behind the stove and the unique blue granite accents along the clean-up sink suggests a shimmering lake. Custom cherry cabinets feature specialized storage: a large pantry with rollout shelves, spice drawer, and utensil tray. Track lighting with cobalt blue pendants and spotlights replace the ceiling fixtures, but the original kitchen sink light remains as a whimsical touch. Neutral wall color and birch flooring help the room stay light and bright.
