Design Challenge: This 1970’s home had a large master bedroom in which the bed faced a doorless master bath. The clients hoped to de-emphasize this view. They also dreamed of a quiet bedroom retreat with a fireplace and coffee bar, but they wanted the new style to be compatible with the 1970’s features, including an original brick wall.
Solution: Indicia’s new design called for creating an L-shaped built-in room divider to shield the bedroom from the bath. The resulting divider features clear finished maple display shelves that face the bedroom. Translucent etched glass at the back of the shelving allows natural light to pass through to the bath. A two-sided angled fireplace completes the short leg of the divider. Custom cabinetry along the brick wall includes a coffee bar, so the clients can ease into the morning or enjoy a bedtime snack by the fire. Indicia’s color palette of soft ice blue, light moss green and limestone enhances the room’s sense of serenity. Custom wool/silk blend bedcovers, faux silk draperies, new carpet and furniture complete the impression. A cove light valance, recessed ambient light, floor lamp, and table lamps make it easy to adapt lighting for different tasks and moods.
