Design Challenge: This large square bedroom with no distinctive architectural details belonged to a 3-year-old girl, whose furnishings looked lost in the space.

Solution: For this 2003 ASID Showcase House, the designers used 2D and 3D features to make the space more intimate and welcoming. A clever custom room divider creates a secret corner playhouse for hours of imaginative play. The playhouse window and awning overlooking the girl’s bed help integrate the bed and playhouse. A fanciful Parisian street scene mural and child-sized café table with chairs set the stage for make-believe tea parties attended by favorite dolls and furry friends. Striped awnings and faux shutters, custom bedding, flower boxes, and a lighted lamppost/clothes tree complete the whimsical storybook scene.
